FAQ

How much nitrate is in a scoop?

We do not know, so we do not state it. This is a whole-food powder that is not tested or standardized for nitrate, and the NIH notes that nitrate varies considerably among beet products. Studies that found exercise effects used about 5 to 11 mmol (310 to 682 mg) of nitrate, usually from about 2 cups of beetroot juice.

Will it improve my endurance?

We do not make that claim for this product. In studies, beetroot juice improved endurance in many but not all trials, mostly in recreational athletes, at the nitrate doses above. In one dose study, 4.2 mmol of nitrate had no effect. Because this powder's nitrate content is not measured, we cannot say it reaches those amounts.

How do I take it?

Mix one scoop (4.5 g) into your favorite drink or smoothie. It is sold by weight, not volume, so the powder can settle in the tub.

Why is my urine pink?

Beet pigments are excreted in urine and stool and can color them pink or red. It is harmless.

Is it organic?

Yes. The beet root is certified organic by QAI, and the product carries the USDA Organic seal.

Does it contain sugar?

A scoop has 2 g of sugar, all from the beet itself, with 0 g added. It has 20 calories and 3 g of carbohydrate.

Can I take it with the Pre-Workout?

Yes. A Pre-Workout serving (1.5 scoops) contains 225 mg of beet root powder, a small amount next to a 4.5 g scoop of this.

Where and how is it made?

In the USA, with globally sourced ingredients, in an NPA GMP-certified, third-party audited, FDA-registered facility that follows FDA's cGMP rules for dietary supplements (21 CFR Part 111). The beet root is USDA Organic, certified by QAI.

What does it taste like?

Earthy, like beets. There is no added flavor or sweetener, so it blends best into a smoothie, juice or shake.

Who should check with a doctor first?

Anyone pregnant or nursing, taking medication or managing a medical condition.

Can I use it if I compete in a tested sport?

This product does not carry a banned-substance certification such as NSF Certified for Sport or Informed Sport. If you compete under anti-doping rules, check with your governing body before using any supplement.

What research is behind the ingredients?

  1. In a crossover study, people drank 70, 140 or 280 ml of concentrated beetroot juice supplying 4.2, 8.4 or 16.8 mmol of nitrate (roughly 260, 520 and 1,040 mg). Plasma nitrite peaked about two to three hours later. The lowest dose had no effect on exercise. The two higher doses lowered the oxygen cost of moderate exercise and extended time to exhaustion, with no extra benefit from the highest dose. This powder's nitrate content has not been measured, so these results cannot be applied to it.
